1. People often concern themselves with Outdoor Air Quality standards in relation to their health and wellness, but fail to acknowledge Indoor Air Quality as well.
Why do you believe that this lack of knowledge exists?
What effects may this lack of awareness have on human health?
I think traditionally there has been a perception that indoor air, per se, is rather clean and that is why everybody has been concerned about outdoor air quality. The reality is, we spend about 80 to 90 percent of our time indoors.
What also has become more and more apparent is, all of the negative effects that indoor air quality has on our wellbeing, on our productivity in the office, even to the degree that long-term illnesses and allergies can develop.
2. What are ways in which you believe we can increase Indoor Air Quality awareness among the public?
I think we as industry experts and as the supply chain, we have responsibility in providing data, giving speeches, making the subject transparent, and also demonstrate to the public the positive effect that improved air quality does have on everybody’s wellbeing and health.
The other thing that I would certainly mention is that now in light of the Corona crisis per se, I think the public interest in that subject has vastly increased and certainly, this is something we should make positive use of and drive the agenda.
3. During this time of a worldwide pandemic, what role do air filters play regarding human health?
How do they work to clean the air that we are breathing?
Certainly, air filters can improve indoor air quality, and in a more general sense, filter media can prevent small particles, down to the ePM1 level, down to sizes smaller than one micrometer, from entering into the indoor air space.
4. As a result of Covid-19, there has been a lot of pressure placed on the World Health Organization to increase global awareness of Indoor Air Quality among the public.
How will this, in your opinion, affect the demand for filtration products in corporate buildings, hospitals and residential buildings?
To me there is no doubt that this certainly will drastically increase the amount of filtration. There will be a lot more interest in the quality of filtration.
What I conclude from that is, there will be increasing demands for filtration efficiencies. There will be an increasing demand for first class filtration in office buildings, in public buildings, and even to the degree that I believe that filtration and filtration efficiencies in buildings can become and will become, a differentiator.
5. Hollingsworth & Vose is committed to creating a Cleaner World through the use of advanced materials for filtration, battery separators and industrial applications.
How does NanoWave® help ensure that this vision is achieved?
NanoWave® is a patented product, which allows achieving highest efficiency levels, and at the same time, achieves lowest possible pressure drops.
What that means is, it will allow savings in terms of energy, which will result in a reduction of CO2 emissions, and at the same time, it will enable cost reduction in terms of energy costs for the building operator.
6. How is NanoWave® different than other types of synthetic pocket filter media?
NanoWave® offers the highest possible efficiency standards, whilst at the same time thanks to the low pressure drop, it allows and will also provide energy savings, reduced energy consumption, and therefore, lowest possible CO2 emissions. Thirdly, it also allows for a long lifetime of the filter thanks to its superior dust-holding capacity, which is two to three times higher than other premium filter media.
I would like also to mention that in terms of disposal cost at the end of its lifetime, again, NanoWave® offers a very distinct advantage.
So in essence, not only that NanoWave® outperforms comparable media, also NanoWave® offers the lowest possible lifecycle costs.
7. What would you say are future trends within air filtration and how will Hollingsworth & Vose work to promote a safer and healthier world through the use of air filtration products?
We are firmly convinced that the importance of indoor air quality and the awareness will continue to rise.
We believe that to develop and promote products that, on one hand even provide better efficiencies in the filters and at the same time allow even lower pressure drops – this will be a very strong future trend.
At H&V, we will continue to lead innovation towards products that will allow even better performing filters, which will meet the described need and will keep harmful pollutants away from people.
